Blergh… Post-Halloween Pre-Thanksgiving
I thought I was going to have time to write more posts… apparently not! I got slammed with exams and papers three weeks thinking I had more “down time”… HAH! It begins again… had one exam this morning, have a paper due tonight; two exams, two quizzes, discussion board, and lab paper due next week. SOMEONE save me!
I do know though, I will definitely have an “easier” time once Thanksgiving rolls around… and I will post some craft projects and tutorials then. I’ve had a few ideas I need to bring forth and just in time for Christmas!
Until then… toodles! See y’all in three weeks? Maybe two?
Doctor Who Season 6: My fave episodes
*all photos are from the BBC Doctor Who website! Not mine! All theirs!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw
Doctor Who Season 6 marks the second season we have Matt Smith as the Doctor. Huge improvement! His acting from Season 5 to Season 6 has progressed wonderfully… I think he has definitely found himself and I enjoy watching him with Amy and Rory.
Episodes:
- The Impossible Astronaut
- Day of the Moon
- The Curse of the Black Spot
- The Doctor’s Wife
- The Rebel Flesh
- The Almost People
- A Good Man Goes to War
- Let’s Kill Hitler
- Night Terrors
- The Girl Who Waited
- The God Complex
- Closing Time
- The Wedding of River Song
***********************SPOILERS*********************************
The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon were fave episodes for obvious reasons – we are introduced to the (impending) death of the Doctor, The Silence, the awesome way The Silence is dealt with (imo), Canton, more River Song!, and the whole bit where the Tardis can’t determine whether or not Amy is pregnant.
AND the little girl regenerating in the street! How about that?!?!?! Ohhhhh Time Lord Mysteries!!! Makes for a great start to the season!!!
Episode four, The Doctor’s Wife was poignant, beautiful, and well done. The Tardis’s conscience is transferred into the body of a mortal and for the first time in 900+ years, she and the Doctor can say, “Hello.” ::tear:: One of my favorite lines in there had to be when Idris (Tardis) told The Doctor she wanted to see the universe and stole him…. how sweet! ::fangirls:: Truly, she is the Doctor’s Wife, with him through thick and thin, through time and space. Old girl.
A Good Man Goes to War was fantastic. I nearly added The Almost People but only for the ending scene where we discover Amy was not Amy the entire time but a copy of Amy via the flesh!! Gahhhhhh what the hell, we got tricked and didn’t even freakin know it! I thought The Rebel Flesh and The Almost People were fillers but they had a point! Anyways, A Good Man Goes to War… quite possibly my favorite scene was when Amy was holding Melody and warning them the child’s father was a warrior, thousands of years old, etc etc and coming to save them…. almost had me there… it wasn’t the Doctor, but Rory! Centurion Rory! Gawd I love this show! It was rather cool seeing a lot of villains reappear on the Doctor’s side… and BAM! Melody Pond is River Song.. because the only water in the forest is the River.
DDDDDDDDDD
Let’s Kill Hitler was hilarious. And fun! We get to see Alex Kingston return, we get to see Hitler locked in the closet… and we also see that River used up her remaining regenerations to keep the Doctor alive. My only question… how many did she use before? 1 – little girl from episode 2; 2 – as Mels; 3 – as River… no telling how many times she regenerated before we saw her as Mels and River right??? Which means she can potentially pop up later portrayed by another actress right??? ::ahem ahem ahem:: I’ll keep dreaming then.
The Girl Who Waited… another beautiful episode. So sad. I really admire and enjoy and LOVE the love Amy and Rory share. “You know when sometimes you meet someone so beautiful and then you actually talk to them and five minutes later they’re as dull as a brick? Then there’s other people, when you meet them you think, “Not bad. They’re okay.” And then you get to know them and… and their face just sort of becomes them. Like their personality’s written all over it. And they just turn into something so beautiful.” – Amy Pond. Oh man… I had to rewind and watch again. That was beautiful. And that’s all I’m going to say regarding that episode… I felt bad for older Amy.
And we skip to the season finale, The Wedding of River Song. Let me just say that I realized at the end of The God Complex where he leaves Amy and Rory behind to the start of Closing Time… a hundred years, give or take has passed for the Doctor. He traveled for almost a hundred years without Amy and Rory… I say this because in Impossible Astronaut, the “him” that was killed said he was over 1,000 years old and I was FOR SURE he was still in his 900s! Someone correct me if I’m wrong? The episode itself was a bit of a jamble but I believe my favorite moments mostly involved Amy. Amy drawing a picture of Rory and “looking” for him still (hahaha), Amy putting the eyepiece back on Madame Kavorian and saying “River Song didn’t get it all from you, Sweetie.” (MUAHAHHAHAHAHAH <3 Amy!!), and the end where she is overjoyed with River and then realizes….. “And I’m his…. mother-in-law.” <– insert shocked, horrified, stumped look… LMAO. My other fave part has got to be River and the Doctor’s interaction and whole marriage sequence. The episode overall isn’t as riveting as some of the other season finales but it is still not bad at all… I suspect there is more waiting for us…. Doctor Who?
But a side ramble…. Oh River…. you and the Doctor… your love story is one of the saddest I’ve ever come across. Moving in opposite directions along the time stream… so sad, so so so so so so sooooooooooooo sad. It breaks my heart… and remembering the episode where River gives her life for the Doctor back in Tenant’s era…. ::tear:: I never imagined how they would take River’s character from that episode and weave it into this magnificent storyline. I love it! Alex Kingston is so talented… makes my heart ache. Ach!
BUT we know River does eventually know the Doctor’s true name (how she got Ten to believe her) and she gets his sonic screwdriver.. maybe she made one herself… more awaits us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can’t wait for the Christmas Special!!!!!!

I’ve decided to split my blog in half… undoing what I did about a year ago merging my personal and scifi blog together. Don’t ask. I’m a woman, I can do what I want!! But it is going to stay like this henceforth… I don’t want to bog people down with non scifi/anime/dorky/entertainment posts so I will just section that stuff off.
Science fiction, anime, conventions, movie/book/tv reviews, and random dorky things will belong in this blog.
Food posts, recipes, beauty talk, rants, and the like will go in my BRAND SPANKING NEW (not quite cuz I imported a lot of the old posts over hehehhehehe) blog (click on it for link)… HAIR LIKE EINSTEIN. I like it. The name is eccentric and wacky like me.
Please follow if you want or disregard.
I shall try my best to churn out a fantastic scifi related post at least once a week.
Promise. Except during exam weeks. Thanks for all the love and support!

Anime Fest 2011
What fun!! I’m sooooooooooooo sorry I’m just now getting this post out… school has been taking over my life lately. School and work. >_< Since I just finished taking a quiz and have two exams next week, I have a little time to work up a post. Yeah, I just said that.
Anyhoo, because of school and work, I was not able to attend Anime Fest on Friday and Saturday T_T but got to all day Sunday and part of Monday (where I went to work, go figure). Lucky me, the Doctor Who Shoot was scheduled at noon so I wasn’t going to miss it! Now, something you have to know about me is I detest finding parking. Especially downtown. When I told a coworker about AFEST, he suggested I take the DART rail. I was skeptical (mainly because I had never taken American public transportation by myself before, or ever. Weird right? I’m comfortable and prefer to take the subway or walk in Tokyo and am scared as shit here. But that is Tokyo and this is Dallas. Anyways, took the subway and it was perfectly fine. No scary shit happened. THIS TIME AROUND. O_O
Got to Reunion Tower, found my friends, got to Dokko Kim’s (Kimber) room and we had girl time while we changed into our costumes. She was Hikaru from Ouran High School Host Club and I was… ta-da! A Dalek again… except it was the dress inspired by the “new” Daleks from Victory of the Daleks.. and I’d never worn it yet (even if it was made a year ago). I should have tried it on beforehand and altered it… because it was rather loose… but I didn’t. Bad me. It was so loose in the top (boob area) that if I didn’t hold it up, it would have fallen straight to my waist. The waist area was bad – I could grab a hand full of fabric.. needed a belt to cinch but it would have ruined the look. OH WELL. So I did not get to wear the dress outside of the photoshoot time because I was trying my best to hold it up so I don’t flash everyone. DK and I wandered the con area trying to find the OHSHC photoshoot that was scheduled to happen at 11:30AM but never found it. Rather, they never showed up. Who does that? Who schedules shoots and cancels without telling people? I saw some other cosplayers looking for that shoot also… maybe someone who knows what happened can enlighten me but that’s pretty… irresponsible not to update people, especially if it was rescheduled, cancelled, etc. Anyhoo, she attended the WHO shoot and became my photographer.
Let’s see, there weren’t that many different versions of the Doctor this time around (most were at DragonCon I hear), I was the only Dalek (very surprising), there was a Clockwork Android from The Girl in the Fireplace, a First Doctor, a Tardis (very cute and well done), Eleventh Doctor from The Lodger, Astrid Peth from Voyage of the Damned, and various others… I’m getting shivers now reminiscing all the amazing episodes of Who. ::shivers:: See?!?!? Haha
After the shoot was done, I changed into a more comfortable dress and started wandering around. One thing AFEST tops AKON is the panels they have. Not that I was able to attend any, but looking at the panel schedule, it offers more constructive and useful activities for con-goers. Like instructions on a duct tape dummy (I REALLY wanted to go to that one), leather working, foam crafting, digital art, etc etc… I just know whenever I look at the schedules for AKON, I’m not too interested in most of what they have aside from artist/musician panels, autograph sessions, and concerts. Bleh. Might just be me.
Artist Alley was a bit haphazard, being spread out everywhere instead of being concentrated in one area. Not sure how I feel about that… I like that its spread throughout the con but I can’t pictures or video without accidentally getting artist booths into the frame and not getting nagged about it. SORRY! >_<
There weren’t as many cosplayers here as there are at AKON (sheer numbers game) but I found quite a few interesting ones. Some I recognize seeing at AKON. That was a trip.
The Dealer’s Room was quite impressive. The mood/lighting is not very friendly but what can you do with the space provided right? There were a good number of items out and snacks.. I overheard one of the vendors say, “My buns are selling like crazy.” I had to chuckle at that.
I wanted to purchase soooo many things but I held back… Halloween is coming up so I need to save moneys to work on my costume, gotta buy my airline ticket to/fro Cali and parking at the airport… ughh… textbooks have been draining me.. let’s not go any further lest I get more depressed.
BUT the most fun I had in the Dealer’s Room was when DK and I stopped at the Funimation booth where we had them play Gee by SNSD and had Changsta dance to it. Yup. Got it on video. >:D But I’m not sharing.
You’re welcome Chang, if you’re reading this!

This guy could not decide on a cosplay so I suppose he went for an all-kill and did as many as he could. I got a kick out this! Jedi Akatsuki Cookie Monster
Later that night, my friends and I got together for cupcakes at the hotel bar for Reb’s birthday (Astrid Peth).. <3. The night ended with a bit of Shaolin Soccer – oh yeah! Stephen Chow ftw! The following day, DK and I made our way back to the Dealer’s Room… to stalk Ibi some more. Ibi of Sixh, who is currently designing clothing lines with h.Naoto. Here is their Facebook page if you’re interested. Anyways, you basically have to purchase something to have a photo taken with Ibi. Well, I had a photo with Ibi last year at AKON during the autograph session for FREE so cheap frugal money smart me was trying to find ways out of it. DK ended up finding stuff she liked and I got to mooch off of her. AHAHHAHA Thanks DK!
To be honest, I was too chicken to approach him or even suggest taking the photo… it was all DK. I has no balls.
All in all, had a great time. Just wish I was able to attend Friday and Saturday so I could enjoy the panels, What is with me and missing panels?! Sheesh! But before I finish off this post, I leave you with an EPIC cosplay…. Fire Nation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Just awesome. Oh yeah, I uploaded and need to tag/delete photos of AFEST to my SFH flickr album so hold onto your panties til it’s done. I will post the link in an upcoming post.

Everything You Dream Can Be Reality
Saturday mornings for me differs from most people my age.. I’m not hung over, dreading the previous night’s escapades. Rather, I can be found sitting at my desk AT WORK (woe is me) browsing news and current happenings. On one such occasion, I was browsing the Yahoo! photos of the week and came across this creature right here:
The first thought I had was, “…………. what the hell….?! COOL!!!!!” It looked like something straight out of the movies, something you can find in a frame of a horror or science fiction film, not a photo captured in real life… but there it was. I read the caption and it said that it was an image capture of a hydrothermal worm on an electron microscope, enlarged 525 times! DUDE! Alright… have you guys ever seen Tremors? Doesn’t this bring to mind those creatures from Tremors?!
This goes to show anything the mind can imagine.. is possible. Sure the difference in size isn’t consistent.. (this one is teeny tiny, vs the Tremor’s creatures, “Graboids” they were named if I’m not mistaken, were ginormous and gulped people down like birds do worms) but the striking similarity is still there.
Which brings to mind all the other terrifying creatures Hollywood has thought up… Phronima (link to source of photo below), a tiny, minuscule underwater creature is the inspiration for Alien, so maybe we can scratch it off the list… or does this just mean there truly is something like this but perhaps more terrifying lurking out there? ::makes ghostly woooo noise:: I mean, everything was on a larger scale at one point in time right? Dinosaurs, birds, insects, etc.. now we see their descendants as miniature versions of their former selves.. just a thought.
Basically, this brings me to an idea I know many people share with me… “The difference between science fiction and science is timing.”
Photography, telephones, computers, automobiles, airplanes.. all of the above and most everything else in our society and culture would be considered “science fiction” to those a few hundred years in the past. What would people of the past make of me if I brought ramen to them? Instant noodles/food where all you add is hot water. I’d be either a goddess or a witch!
I’d rather not test out those waters though.. I’m not good like The Doctor or any of the Stargate people to get out of messes.
Speaking of, anyone see the new Doctor Who “Let’s Kill Hitler” last night? WOW.. another post on that soon… my only question is… what happened to the Fuhrer in the closet? Did he finally come out? (teehee, bad joke, sorry)
Post-AKON 22
Hmm.. its been about two weeks now since AKON and I can’t believe I haven’t gotten around to posting anything yet. Here goes.
The con itself was unchanged – still at the Sheraton in Downtown Dallas, with overflow at the Marriott and space taken in the Plaza of the Americas. Since I’m a lazy bum procrastinator extraordinaire, I waited until the last second to make my costume EVEN THOUGH I HAD TONS OF “NOTICE” ON WHO THE HECK I WANTED TO COSPLAY. FML. Therefore, I spent the entire night and morning constructing Fran’s dress.. had two hours of sleep. Maybe I have mentioned on here (prob not) but I am taking summer classes and they’ve been leaving me exhausted. 7:30AM-11:40AM.. and I get to places early so… more like 7AM to 11:40AM for me. Run errands, work… which isn’t too difficult but still.
Anyways, back to AKON. UHmmmmm.. went to class Friday morn, got back home, packed and loaded the car, drove to downtown.. thought it’d take me 30-45 mins to get there and find parking – nope! Took 20 minutes! That’s a new record!! Somehow I got there on the right road and went into the right lot where there was still a spot available.
AND it cost me $3. (Just this once, it got more expensive once the lot owners decided to jack up the price and make profit since it was gonna get filled up anyway.) Called Changalang Changsta (LMAO) and cut in line with him. My friends had waited for three hours – THREE HOURS in pre-reg line to get their badges and lucky me gets to cut in and wait only 30 mins. Score!
OK, no more details. The dealer’s room this year was very… different. It had the same elements – Kyoto Kytchen, its few other food/snack competitors, wall scrolls, swords, figurines, jewelry, plushies, etc.. but there seemed to be an absence of something I can’t quite put my finger on. There were tons of Doctor Who posters and more scifi souvenirs this year – which I’m very happy about.
The cosplay this year varied wildly. Usually, I can tell if there is a “favorite” or trend going on. If anything, there was a bigger presence of steampunk than anything else but nothing dominated the con. Not like Naruto, Pokemon, Hetalia, Bleach, etc of the years past. There were also quite a few DW cosplays running around! One of the highlights for me was seeing Magic Knight Rayearth – talk about old school! I will post a few photos here but will upload to my SFH page on Facebook.
In fact, I’d get right on it now.
Another highlight – seeing The Silence. Wait, just forgot, who’d I see? JK. If you haven’t seen that episode of Doctor Who yet, you won’t get it. But they were there and I got them and they were awesome. I wonder how they made an appearance so quickly?? I think someone is going to cosplay Idris soon, I can feel it in me bones. Speaking of, I’m thinking my next DW cosplay is going to be a “pretty” Weeping Angel. I’ll research body paint.
Highlight number three and the funniest and possibly the best – was seeing a group of Hard Gays. Yes, HARD GAY. In case you’re not familiar, Hard Gay is a Japanese comedic personality where he wears tight leather shorts, leather vest and goes around doing… questionable activities for giggles. I was upstairs leaving (?) the dealer’s room when I chanced upon them and HAD to take pictures. OMG… so epic. The guys were having a great time, they were so into character.. and they were extremely fit.
I didn’t make it to any of the panels – in retrospect, I didn’t go to any panels and most events but I got an awful lot of photos. Still had tons of fun. Next year.. next year will be the year of photos AND panel.. and I will be a skanky cosplayer, mark my words! LMAO. OK off to upload photos.
Here are a few more.. will add link to FB gallery of photos.
***EDIT***: Here is the FB gallery!
